photos: anna wegelinThis is how food shopping in Kazakhstan looks like. It's like, if you want some meat, well go and find yourself a lamb. Buying your dinner ingredients is a true highlight, you will find crazy parts of animals, like pig heads, neat's tongue or offal in every corner.
I think there are no vegetarians in Kazakhstan and no one does convenience foods, which I like alot. Plus everything is so much cheaper there, you really get something for your money, you will pay only a few cents for a bag of veggies.
I was eating schaschlik and plombir ice cream all the time while I was there. It's all about homemade food and simple recipes, but simple ain't easy, I think it's some sort of art to create good schaschlik. My Dad is a master if it comes to that, no one does it better. The good thing is, that I know all of his secrets, I guess there will be a schaschlik special soon!
